Tricounty Crisis Stabilization Center (TCSC) is a 10 bed, voluntary, adult crisis unit serving Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester counties. This unit is designed to provide an urgent treatment option for individuals experiencing psychiatric symptoms which may require medication adjustments and/or counseling support. Historically, individuals experiencing these needs would go to the local hospital emergency departments (EDs) or jail. TCSC provides an alternative treatment option with a goal of diverting individuals from unnecessary ED visits or jail when possible.
Some of the conditions most frequently treated at TCSC are:
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Suicidal thoughts
- Psychosis
- Bipolar Disorder
TCSC is a short-term treatment option, with an average length of stay of 3.5 days. The focus of the unit is to stabilize symptoms and stressors which led to the individual’s crisis and help them to transition back to their natural support systems as quickly as possible. In order to accomplish this, the patients on the unit participate in a full day of clinical programming, to include:
- Group Therapy
- Psychiatric Medical Assessment
- Nursing services
- Medication Administration (as appropriate)
- Individual Sessions
- Assessments
- Psychosocial Rehabilitation Services
TCSC is open and accepts admissions 24/7. Since this is not a locked unit, like a hospital, all patients must be willing to stay at TCSC and participate in the clinical program. TCSC accepts referrals from local hospitals, mental health providers, Mobile Crisis teams, and local law enforcement.
If you think that you or someone you know may be in need of services at TCSC, it is best to call the Assessment/Mobile Crisis team at 843-414-2350. They can help to quickly triage your needs and link you to the most appropriate level of care.
